The Bird

Today I am thankful for the turkey breast being fully thawed. Not for the ability to cook it in a timely manner but for personal safety. In preparing the breast for the smoker, I pulled it from its brine bath this morning and placed it on an recyclable aluminum pan. I set it delicately upright and went about finding a skewer to pierce it side to side so it would not list on the cooker. As I was scavenging the miscellaneous drawer for the lobster motif skewer I heard a powerful thud behind me. I turned around to find the turkey had tipped over in the pan and jumped out onto the floor. Had the bird been frozen it most certainly would have gone zipping across the floor and injured the other unfortunate aspect in this preparation folly - witnesses.
